This Month's Online Exhibition

WINNER of the 2011 CAL VICTORIAN INDIGENOUS ART AWARD For Works on Paper, KAMAHI DJORDON KING is one of the most exciting Aboriginal artists in the industry today! His cutting edge techniques and creative works have placed him firmly on the radar of the contemporary art world.

Born in 1972 in Katherine, Northern Territory, Kamahi began painting and sketching at a young age. A member of the Gurindji tribe, Kamahi Djordon King (Jungala) was mentored by his grandfather who told him stories about the desert and his knowledge was invaluable, as this old man had travelled many miles mustering across the country and had a kinship to the land that he knew so well. A a result Kamahi's work is greatly influenced by his grandfather's teaching and he successfully blends his own unique style and images with other art styles, influenced by so many locations and experiences. Kamahi employs a range of modern art techniques, working with a combination of high quality acrylic paints, latex and other mixed media. He prefers to use metallics as he feels it portrays the images and 'Dreamings' similarly to the way he envisions them in his mind.
